Done Anything New Lately?

March 25, 2020

In the last two weeks, have you done anything new? Something that you have never done before in your lifetime? I know I have!

  • I preached to a completely empty Worship Center for the first time ever.
  • I used Facebook Live for the first time.
  • I deposited a check using my phone for the first time (don’t judge me!).
  • I watched HGTV on a weekend during March Madness (ughhhhh!).

I know we are all doing new things. And we are thinking these new fascinations are temporary. We long to get back to normal - back to the “good ‘ole days.” But what if God is really doing something new? Something that will continue even after Covid-19 is a distant memory?

Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:18-19 (ESV)

I am not suggesting that we will never meet in person again as the church. I am absolutely not stating that we should forego March Madness from this point on. But I am putting forward that I might never sit in a bank drive-through again. And I might utilize the power of Facebook Live more often.

What is God doing in your life right now that might become a “new normal”? Where is He forcing you out of your comfort zone a little bit? Where is He nudging you to move on from the “things of old” to a “new thing”?
