For I was hungry and you game me food...     Jesus – Matthew 25:35
Facts
  • 815 million people around the world do not have enough to eat (The Hunger Project).
  • 13 million children in the United States lack access to affordable and nutritious food (Feeding America).
  • 1 in 4 children in Texas struggles with hunger (Feeding America).
  • 1 in 4 children in Lubbock are at hunger risk (Feeding America).

  • What did you have to eat today? What was your favorite? What was your least favorite?
  • Can you remember a time when you were REALLY hungry? How long did you have to wait to eat?
  • How can you share food with others or help make sure those who are hungry have food to eat?
Ways to Pray
  • Thank God for the food you have to eat each day.
  • Ask God to give those who are hungry food to eat.
  • Pray for organizations and people that help hungry families get the food they need.

Day 2

I was thirsty and you gave me drink…   Jesus – Matthew 25:35
Facts
  • 783 million people worldwide don’t have access to clean and safe water to drink (The Water Project).
  • ½ of the world’s hospital beds are filled with people suffering from a water related disease (The Water Project)
  • 1 out of every 5 deaths under the age of 5 worldwide is due to a water related disease (The Water Project).

  • How many times did you drink water today? Wash your hands? Flush a toilet?
  • Why is clean water so important to our health?
  • How would our lives be different if it wasn’t easy to get clean water?
Ways to Pray
  • Thank God for the clean water you have to drink, wash, and flush a toilet each day.
  • Ask God to help those who don’t have access to clean water.
  • Pray that everyone in the world would not only have clean water but would come to know Jesus as the source of living water.

Day 3

I was a stranger and you welcomed me…   Jesus – Matthew 25:35
Facts
  • Over 65 million people around the world have been forced from their homes by things like war, hunger, and natural disasters (World Vision).
  • More than half of the world’s refugees (those forced from their homes) are children (Refugee Council).
  • Refugees often have to live in camps or make their new home in a place very different from their own.

  • How would you feel if you had to leave your home quickly because of war, hunger, or a natural disaster?
  • Do you know anyone in your community or school who has been displaced from their home?
  • How can we help people who have had to leave their homes?

  • Thank God that you have not had to leave your home because of war, hunger, or natural disaster.
  • Ask God to help refugees be able to recover from their circumstances.
  • Pray for organizations and people who work to help refugees.

Day 4

I was naked and you clothed me…   Jesus – Matthew 25:36
Facts
  • Nearly ½ of the world’s population (more than 3 billion people) live on less than $2.50/day (UNICEF).
  • The average population of those in the United States living in poverty (less than $30,750 anually) is 14%. (US Census).
  • 22% of the population of Lubbock lives in poverty (less than $30,750 annually) (US Census).

  • What other things do we buy with money?
  • How would life be different if we didn’t have a way to earn money?

  • Thank God that you have money to buy clothes, food and other things you need and want.
  • Pray that families who don’t have everything they need to find a way to earn money to get them.
  • Pray that God will show you how to help those who are in need.

Day 5

I was sick and you visited me…   Jesus – Matthew 25:36
Facts
  • The amount of money spent on pharmaceuticals in the United States rose to an all-time high of $425 billion in 2015 (Bloomberg).
  • More than 4.3 million Texans, including 623,000 children, lack health insurance and face challenges getting appropriate medical care (Texas Medical Association).
  • It is estimated that 1 in 5 people living in the United States suffer from a mental illness yet only half of those with a mental illness receive treatment (National Institute of Mental Health).

  • Who do we know that is sick?
  • How does our family care for those who are sick?

  • Thank God for the health you have.
  • Call out those who you know are sick by name and ask God to heal them.
  • Pray that God will show you how to help those who are sick.

Day 6

I was in prison and you came to me.   Jesus – Matthew 25:36
Facts
  • Over 2 million adults in the United States are incarcerated in United States federal and state prisons and county jails (United States Bureau of Justice).
  • The Lubbock County Detention Center has a capacity of 1512 beds.
  • Aldersgate Church has adopted Cluster 6 (approximately 300 beds) at the Lubbock County Detention Center. We call it the IMPACT Campus and it exists to move prisoners toward a life of freedom that can only come from the love of Christ.

  • Talk about the prejudices and judgments that exist against those who live in prison.
  • Is there any way our family can care for those who live in prison?
Ways to Pray
  • Pray for all those incarcerated in prisons and jails across the country and that they would be open to receiving the good news of Jesus Christ.
  • Pray for those in the Aldersgate IMPACT Campus at the Lubbock County Detention Center.
  • Pray for freedom that is found only in Jesus for people needing freedom not just those incarcerated.

As you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.   Jesus – Matthew 25:40

  • Pray for all of those who are hungry, thirsty, displaced from their home, in need, sick, and in prison.
  • Pray that God would show our family how we can personally help those who are hungry, thirsty, displaced from their home, in need, sick and in prison.
