Wait For It

December 4, 2019

The calendar has turned to the last month of 2019 – to the last days of a decade. And Christmas is just 21 days from today. For the church, that means we are in the season of Advent. Advent is a season observed in the Christian church as a time of expectant waiting and preparation for both the celebration of Jesus at Christmas and the return of Jesus at the second coming.

What is it you are waiting for? And how are you waiting?

Waiting is a part of the Christian life — a constant part. We wait for particular promises to be fulfilled, for provision of needs and wants, to be rescued when in trouble, and to be delivered from all kinds of life’s circumstances.

We want to learn how to wait well. And part of waiting well is not allowing our waiting for God to distract us from the good God wants us to do while we wait. Where God has called us to wait, are we waiting in the patient peace of faith, or with unhealthy anxiety? If we are not careful, we can become so preoccupied with the waiting that we neglect things God is wanting to do in us in the here and now.

So…wait for it!

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him… Psalm 37:7
